Flu Viruses & Bacteria

Bacteria can be bought into our homes by wind, and it is often made up of soil and vegetation, compost, municipal landfills and sewage. It can also be spread by breathing, coughing and sneezing, or with interior building materials and furnishings such as wallboard, wallpaper and flooring. Bacteria grows in areas with standing water or condensation areas and dirty or poorly maintained areas will encourage bacteria to thrive.

Viruses are the airborne organisms that can keep us from our work, with the common cold and flues. The spread of these can be aided by inadequate ventilation in the office or at home, and continue to remain infective in warm recirculating areas of temperature controlled climates.

Influenza, commonly known as the flu, is caused by a highly contagious virus that is spread by coughs and sneezes. There are three types of flu virus – A, B and C. Older people and those with an underlying medical condition are more likely to develop serious complications as a result of the flu.

Since Influenza is a Respritory Disease, it is airborne, and most commonly caught by breathing in particles that the person has sneezed, coughed, or even possibly breathed out
